Job Purpose

Primary areas of responsibility will include working across all areas of the business to develop and implement planning and response procedures for, and in response to operational disruptions within the framework of company policy, national, and regional regulations & protocols.

The successful candidate will enjoy a rewarding experience of being directly involved in the preparation, response, and regulatory compliance duties associated with National Grid’s Electric Emergency Response Plan and Planning activities in Worcester, MA.

Key Accountabilities

  • Translate US Emergency Planning policy into processes and procedures that drive greater quality and awareness for National Grid, ensures compliance with regulation and internal standards, and develops a culture of emergency preparedness.
  • Responsible for the regular interface with Regulators, State Emergency Management Officials, County and Municipal Emergency Services, and providing support for employee awareness, training, and exercises. 
  • Represent National Grid in their Regional and National Mutual Assistance program and activities
  • Implement benchmarking and improvement of Electric Emergency Response Plans, Mutual Assistance Policy, and other supporting program documents to maintain the local emergency planning capability and enhance safety, compliance and operability.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management
  • Provide support for exercise and training activities to ensure employee readiness to respond
  • Process and policy consistency across U.S. Jurisdictions  
  • Regulatory reporting that will require working collaboratively with legal, finance, and regulatory affairs to develop external and/or executive reporting

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Build external relationships with the resilience community to ensure current best practice and learning from incidents.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure that business units have adequate emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Liaise across the business to ensure that the strategic response and safety management is embedded within routine business activities, ensuring a clear escalation of issues, when necessary.

Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience within the utility business, with a demonstrated ability to apply and modify theories and learned concepts appropriately; preferably with a 4-year technical degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Grid U.S. utility business.
  • Experience managing multiple, and complex activities associated with project work. Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders absent rank or authority
  • Capable of leading a multi-disciplinary team of technical program and project managers toward the successful completion of improvement initiatives
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the regulatory issues affecting the industry.
  • Ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps.
  • Effective written and verbal communication both internally as well as to external stakeholders, including regulators
  • Demonstrates the ability network internally and externally and to develop successful, long-lasting business relationships / partnerships with others and seeks to understand and challenge business scenarios to the benefit of all parties 

Must be able to work overtime and/or holidays, nights, weekends as needed.

Must be able to travel overnight outside the normal work area.
