National Grid is hiring for a Test Lead/Agile Release Train Lead (Networks)for our Infrastructure and Operations department in Waltham, MA.

National Grid IT operates across the UK and NE US and is split into Solution Delivery and Infrastructure & Operations (I&O). I&O operates with three towers that operate globally across the US and UK: Cloud & Hosting, End User Experience & Operations and Networks).
I&O are moving to a Scaled Agile (SAFe) model of delivery from April 2021 and each tower will be operating as an Agile Release Train (ART) with several Scrum teams operating within the ARTs.
The Network ART will consist of scrum teams specialising in Wifi, LAN/ WAN/ SDWAN, UPS amongst others.
The I&O Test & Quality team operates across I&O and consists of ~ 22 permanent and contract test staff globally, embedded in the scrum teams. This is a full-time position, on-site and based out of Waltham, MA, reporting into the Global Head of Test of Quality and principal responsibilities will include: • Line management of ~ 10 US permanent, contract and staff augments o Provide excellent leadership o Ensure permanent team members have SMART objectives defined each year, which are aligned to the organisational and team objective, that they are proactively tracked throughout the year o Ensure permanent team members have training planned and taken o Regular 121s with all team members o Deal with escalations and queries as the US point of contact o Report regularly to the Global Head of Test & Quality and escalate as necessary o Ensure team metrics, timesheets are completed o Create an inclusive culture and treat all staff fairly o Promote equality and diversity o Manage the US relationship with our staff augment partner o Ensure that staff augment time forecasting, and billing is agreed upfront and managed throughout, and invoices processed.
• Operating as Test Lead within the Program team of the global Network ART: o Ensure consistent ways of working with the testers in the scrum teams o Ensure Test principles are embedded and well explained at the ART level o Active involvement at Programme Increment (PI) planning sessions o Produce ART level metrics and ensure consistent metrics are put in place at the scrum team level o Ensure the correct level of testing is taking place during sprints o Solve testing-related issues that arise with the teams o Perform some necessary testing duties that support the Scrum teams o Operate where necessary within the scrum teams in a hands-on role.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Skilled in stakeholder engagement and contract management.
• The candidate should have extensive knowledge of infrastructure technologies, including non-functional considerations with an emphasis on successful implementation of testing methodologies to support network changes, for example: o Wireless/LAN/WAN Networks o Switches, Routers, Firewalls and Client/Server Configuration o Performance Testing, Soak Testing, Link Stability testing o Networks Failover, Backup/Restore and Disaster Recovery Testing • Sound knowledge of testing and quality assurance, with at least 5 years’ practical experience. • Excellent soft skills are required for collaborating with team members, internal and external, and supporting users with testing. • Experience leading a team • Experience of working in a SAFe/ Agile environment • Testing & Agile qualifications
Desirable: • Experience of working with JIRA • Cisco Networking qualifications (CCNA) or equivalent
