Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!

Advanced Data Analytics - Internal Consultancy (Waltham, MA)

Our Advanced Data Analytics - Internal Consultancy team supports our company’s mission by providing advanced analytics consulting services to the company. The team works to define and build models, mine big and small data to better understand customers and their energy habits, being the catalyst of process reengineering through advanced analytics. For the summer you will work with the team on a data science project that will have a meaningful impact on either internal National Grid operations or on the customer experience. Past projects included: anomaly detection to gas identify meter failure; preventative safety analytics; and developing asset failure models.

AMI Advanced Metering Infrastructure (Waltham, MA)

Our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) team works alongside other teams to provide software and hardware updates needed for the implementation of 1.5 Smart Electric Meters in Upstate New York. For the summer you will assist the team in acceptance criteria that is received from the other departments and the reconciliation of work completed by each Scrum team to close out work statuses.

Data Science, Advanced Data & Analytics (Waltham, MA)

Our Data Science, Advanced Data & Analytics team is a team of data scientists, data engineers and MLOps engineers solving business problems with data driven approaches leveraging AI/Machine learning. Their work involves accessing database, scripting and code development, machine learning & data science solution development, insight generation and delivery. For the summer you will be working on Data Science, Data Engineering or MLOps Infrastructure related projects.

Data Strategy & Transformation - Customer (Waltham, MA)

Our Data Strategy & Transformation team works to advance the methods, processes, and tools with which our customer organization stores and shares data across the company. For the summer you will assist the team in performing data management maturity assessments, developing data quality training, and facilitating business process change management.

NY & NE Electric CIO Organization (Waltham, MA)

Our NY & NE Electric CIO team is responsible for modernizing our existing aged (IT) systems and infrastructure, implementing transformational products that will support the 'Future of Electricity' while enabling the interconnected utility model. The team supports the company’s ability to propel our business into being at the heart of a clean, fair, reliable, and affordable energy future, with a focus on investments. For the summer you will work alongside the team to report out on our outcomes and key results. You will support the development of monthly performance/financial reporting materials and data analysis.

Product Engineering (Waltham, MA)

Our Product Engineering team is responsible for building software products for all teams/employees within NationalGrid. For the summer you will help support project DERAConnect. This is the company’s digital product that enables the process for enrolling and operating DER aggregations in the New York wholesale market. You will help implement new features, correct any bugs that need fixing, and assist with prototyping and documenting your experience.

Safety Policy & Programs (Waltham, MA)

Our Safety Policy & Programs team is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing different safety policies and programs. The team is responsible for safety reporting, incident trends/management, and ensuring OSHA reporting is being completed. For the summer you will oversee data management using Power BI and conduct any necessary testing. 

What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
  • Majoring in Data Analytics, Data Science, IT, Computer Science, Math, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range

$20.00 - $23.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$31.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
