Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2023:

Corporate Finance (Waltham, MA)

Our Corporate Finance team is responsible for the financial planning and analysis for our New England business. The team supports controllable costs and capital expenditures (CapEx). For the summer you will assist the team with budgeting, variance analysis, and processing excel sheets to support the close process.

Finance (Waltham, MA)

Our New England FP&A team is responsible for reporting, forecasting, budgeting of financial performance and overall support of our New England business. For the summer you will assist the team with monthly reporting & analysis, forecasting, and other ad hoc financial analysis.

Global Finance, Enterprise Partnering (Waltham, MA)

Our Global Finance Business Partners team acts as strategic advisors to the Business Units and Group Functions within National Grid. Through the advanced analysis and action-oriented insight the team provides to other departments, they empower our stakeholders to make strategic decisions. For the summer you will perform analysis and work on different finance projects such as business proposals and pending rate cases which is the process used to establish customer pricing.

Global Functions FP&A (Waltham, MA)

Our Global Functions FP&A team supports the financial planning and reporting for our company’s Global Functions financials. The team works with other company departments to meet companywide financial and strategic objectives, report on financial results, build quarterly forecasts, and perform ad hoc analyses. For the summer you will support the team in contributing to month-close deliverables by consolidating financial data in excel, building out comparative and trending analyses, work cross functionally to understand business drivers and articulate to finance leadership.

Global Technology Operations (Waltham, MA)

Our Global Technology Operations team is key to the delivery and sustainability of the innovative, stable, and secure infrastructure technology that underpins our company’s ambitions and outcomes. The team is helping to drive the company’s vision of building a digital future. For the summer you will assist with financial reporting, conducting financial analysis, and forecasting. 

Property Tax (Waltham, MA)

Our Property Tax team is responsible for reporting and paying property tax on all real estate and personal property the company has. For the summer you will assist the team in implementing a new bill payment project by completing user testing and validating the findings. You will also help answer questions from municipalities and create compliance packages. 

Risk & Assurance (New England) (Waltham, MA)

Our Risk & Assurance (New England) team provides assurance that the principal controls that govern critical operations within our business are effective and that such controls mitigate or eliminate the risk associated with them. For the summer you will assist the team with controls testing support and reviewing past testing data to identify trends and lessons learned.

What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
  • Majoring in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range

$17.00 - $21.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$26.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
