Job Purpose
The Release Train Engineer is a servant leader accountable for developing the process and implementing a repeatable cutover strategy for US Gas Business Unit product lines and their underlying platforms and applications, for managing the Scrum Masters across Product Line Scrum teams, and for driving teams toward deployment milestones to ensure consistent and quality delivery of value to the business.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop a repeatable approach for a multi – release strategy supporting major and minor enhancements and defect repair
- Develop the tactical procedures for Release Management to lead and drive development, testing, demos, dress rehearsals, Go/No Go decisions, cutover, hypercare, environment controls, and business readiness
- Coach and collaborate with Scrum masters and Product Management toward Agile industry best practices
- Manage a daily Scrum of Scrums as a forum for Scrum masters to voice concerns, request assistance on removal of roadblocks, and to provide an understanding on status against release milestones
- Continuously Improve release procedures, team interactions, product delivery, and code quality
- Develop environment capacity requirements and work with environment management and platform leads to support release milestones
- Maintain an interdependency release road map for all minor and major releases
- Define the KPI’s and success metrics, entry and exit criteria for Cutover, Hypercare, and PGLS
- Develop standards for refinement, story pointing, planning, and scope lock and usage of burn down charts to ensure consistency across teams
- Primary liaison between Engineering teams and Change Management, logging change requests for scheduled and off cycle releases
- Manage technical issues, risks and priorities. Perform risk assessment and implement risk mitigation plans
- Work with DevOps for management of Jira to enable reporting and system functionality requirements
- Provide daily reporting of Release status and progress toward milestones
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external customers at all organizational levels
- Demonstrated customer focus, attitude and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- A collaborative style that emphasizes teamwork, values the contributions of each team member, and encourages participation in achieving results for the organization and its customers
Qualifications
- BS in computer science or, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing multi release product deployments and or releases in the SAFe model
- Experience conducting and leading team meetings to manage the schedule, identify risks and review project deliverables. Comfortable with frequent changes or unpredictability
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage complex and varied interpersonal relationships to successfully complete projects
- Experience in using the Agile methodology, and use of tools – JIRA, Confluence, Agile Craft. Project online, other
- Excellent ability to organize time and information to successfully complete projects. Ability to lead and model behaviors for other team members
