About the Position:

 National Grid’s Transmission business isfocused on creating the most intelligent transmission network in the US;facilitating the evolving needs of customers and a decarbonized energy future.To create that future, National Grid must have reliability standards and policyin place that allows for safeguarding of infrastructure necessary to deliverthe most intelligent transmission network and ensures our power generationbusiness continues to provide safe and reliable electricity to the Long IslandPower Authority (LIPA).

National Grid operates over 9,000 miles oftransmission across New England and New York, including a wholesale LNG storageand proposed liquefaction plant; HVDC transmission delivering over 2,000 MW ofclean hydro power from Canada; and almost 4,000 MW of power generationcontracted to LIPA.

The NERC Transmission Technical PolicyManager will be responsible for National Grid’s influencing and shaping ofexisting and new reliability standards and compliance with the North AmericanElectric Reliability Council (NERC) and regional electric reliabilityorganization. The role will also be responsible for all interactions with theNorth American Transmission Forum (NATF), in which National Grid is a participatingmember in this best practices forum, and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI)committees responsible for shaping transmission and generation reliabilitypolicy at the national level.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

·Engages and coordinates across the transmission and generation businessto shape the direction of external stakeholders to author new and makemodification to transmission and bulk power system reliability standards andcriteria development

·Leads and advocates company direction in external facing forums,including NERC, NATF, and EEI reliability committees and working with the engineering,regulatory, and legal teams for interaction including electric reliabilitydockets at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

·Coordinates across transmission business to ensure overall NE and NYtransmission asset plans, includes all investments necessary to comply with newNERC and regional reliability standards; works with business to understand theimpacts of possible future reliability standards, and impacts that deploymentof new technologies could have on meeting existing or new reliability standards

·Coordinates business interactions with NATF, including implementation ofnew best practices considered by NATF

·Ensuring that National Grid’s engineering and operation and compliancefunctions understand the impact of new compliance requirements and ensuringthat compliance mechanisms are in place to meet requirements, working with theReliability Compliance team to ensure processes and systems are put in place


Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor degree in business,policy or engineering
  • Minimum  7+ years of work experiencein Electric Transmission and/or Power Generation, commercial and/or projectmanagement, and alliance and stakeholder management.  
  • Ability to align and influence stakeholders
  • Experienceworking on multiple simultaneous initiatives
  • Entrepreneur mentality
