Job Purpose

In this role you will partner with specific area of the US business risk community to maintain a rigorous risk identification, assessment and management approach.  You will advise and challenge the control and mitigation plans within that business area, whilst providing bottom-up/top down Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) support.  Alongside this you will provide best practice support and coaching, ensuring that the risk process in operation is optimized to achieve good business outcomes. 

Key Accountabilities

•    Provide best practice support and coaching (including National Grid’s Business Management Standard, risk appetite, risk universe monitoring, Key Risk Indicators etc) across specific US business areas

•    Support the re-baselining of both US principle and business area risk profiles utilizing NG horizon scanning processes

•    Ensure appropriate risk and control mapping is in place

•    Monitor adherence to group risk appetite utilizing ERM tools including Key Risk Indicators

•    Ensure NG Enterprise Risk Management frameworks and specialist risk frameworks are aligned across the region, supported by the NG Global Enablement team

•    Ensure optimal use of Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) tooling within the business unit

•    Work with business unit Compliance leads to align compliance and risk efforts and activities

•    Facilitate business unit risk deep dives and support the business to embed the risk process into day to day decision making. 

•    Alongside the business provide input to US Risk Committee and reporting requirements

•    Work alongside assurance colleagues to embed risk and controls processes across the organization and build capability within the second line teams

Qualifications

•    Degree qualified, or able to demonstrate significant experience and expertise of risk management

•    Experience and/or significant familiarization within the utility industry gas, electric, transmission, generation operations desirable

•    Minimum 2+ years’ managerial experience

•    Strong understanding of risk, controls and assurance activities

•    Influential, energetic and enthusiastic business leader, with the drive, ambition and resilience to make things happen and deliver outstanding performance

•    Strong data management and/or IT skills.

•    A strong, successful record in providing strategic leadership, implementing change, stakeholder management, and delivering against business objectives

•    Ability to successfully bring together and drive cooperation across diverse teams with potentially conflicting goals and objectives

•    Demonstrates the ability to build an independent opinion of business needs, problems and/or opportunities and design appropriate solutions.

•    Constructively challenge status quo, share ideas and best practice
