National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineering Resource Program Manager for our Resource Planning group in Waltham, MA

Job Purpose

Primary goal is to facilitate the planning, delivery, and management of engineering resources for the Substation, Protection, and Transmission Line Engineering teams in accordance with National Grid processes.  Provide leadership and clear direction on multi-year engineering resource plans to the engineering management team in order to delivery on their functional responsibilities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop, model, analyze, and manage the electric substation, protection, and transmission line engineering resource plans to support the 5 Year Transmission & Distribution Business Spending Plans.
  • Responsible for an efficient resource plan that meets all engineering milestones to support the electric station portfolio.
  • The Program Manager builds internal and external relationships to enable the cost effective planning, scheduling, and execution of engineering tasks that support electric substation, protection, and transmission line projects to achieve overall portfolio performance targets in the company-wide jurisdictions.
  • The Program Manager will support other Project and Program Managers when applicable.
  • Track project plans prior to funding and determine appropriate placement within the substation, protection, and transmission line engineering resource plans.
  • Work with T & D Asset Sponsors to set up methodologies for project engineering resource planning and execution.
  • Work in close liaison with Long Term & Current Year Resource Planning, Complex Capital Delivery, and Asset Management to ensure the substation, protection, and transmission line engineering portfolio is properly modeled and resource loaded in Primavera (P6) while accounting for 100% of resources’ availability.
  • Produce multi-year resource plans for the substation, protection, and transmission line engineering functional groups.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative, integrity and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or analytical discipline
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Experience of fact finding including knowledge and understanding of where to find and how to present relevant information using critical analysis
  • Working knowledge and experience in program/project management principles, budgeting, forecasting, along with scheduling tools and techniques
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 (or MS Project)
  • Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Power Plan, SAP.
  • Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices
  • Knowledge and proficiency in relevant company IT systems
  • Advanced analytical skills with competencies to transfer data between software systems, and ability to develop complex business reports in project management systems and other software tools
  • Familiarity with Business Objects is a plus
  • Familiar with Transmission & Distribution substation and line construction is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
