Job Purpose

The Analyst in External Distribution Design will be responsible to execute the procurement process for obtaining professional electrical design services for the Distribution Design Department. The Analyst will ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.  Will also work closely with the departments liaison engineers to ensure proper scope, delivery and qualifications to complete the work are met.  The successful candidate will have a combination of technical and business experience contributing as a key member of the External Distribution Design Team. To analyze distribution design data and activities, providing relevant and up-to-date information to support decision making and the effective review and analysis of standards, policies and codes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Process relevant documentation to ensure a complete invoice, change order, and reporting process for design of distribution projects in support of National Grid’s Annual Work Plan.
  • Able to create, maintain, and produce reports from a database, keeping record of department’s contracted activities.  
  • Working with National Grids approved professional engineering firms during the procurement and delivery process. 
  • Supporting decision-making and the effective working of National Grid’s External Distribution Design Department, throughout the procurement and delivery process.  
  • Supporting the liaison engineers by providing and contributing feedback on issues relevant to the delivery of engineering services, and any of the payment process life cycle.
  • Performing root cause analysis, develops recommendations, and implements changes to improve performance of the department. 
  • Analyzing data, procedures, activities, and pertinent documents to provide relevant and up to date information to support decision-making and the effective working of National Grid. 
  • Providing information mostly through reports to ensure internal stakeholders are kept up to date with relevant National Grid policies, processes and programs. 
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure information on assigned projects is shared.  

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required


  • A Bachelors Degree and a minimum 3-5 years of related work experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, preferably Oracle or Microsoft access
  • Understanding of project management techniques and methods.
  • Experience in contracting professional services, including scope development, proposal evaluation, contract awarding, monitoring, and payment.  
  • Experience and proficiency in relevant company related IT systems; Work Management, GIS, Financial Management and Reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access and MS PowerPoint 
  • Knowledge of budgeting and work planning processes. 
  • Strong time management skills and have a demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner. 
  • Ability to develop and deliver an informative & effective presentation.
