Description

About the Position:

 National Grid’s Transmission business is focused on creating the most intelligent transmission network in the US; facilitating the evolving needs of customers and a decarbonized energy future. To create that future, National Grid must have public policy in place that allows for investment in infrastructure to deliver clean energy and tariffs that allow for fair and adequate cost recovery.

National Grid operates the largest transmission system in Upstate New York with over 6,000 mile under the operational authority of the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) and revenue recovery under the New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC).

The NY Transmission Technical Policy Manager will be responsible for National Grid’s influencing and shaping all transmission stakeholder interactions with the NYISO, ensuring that we are advocating for beneficial policies in the stakeholder, technical and governance committees; ensuring that the NY tariffs meet the needs of the National Grid New York transmission business; building up beneficial relationships with stakeholders to proactively shape policy and tariffs, and creating opportunities to invest in transmission under the NYISO regional transmission planning process.


Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Engages and shapes with external NY transmission stakeholders to move forward transmission business growth strategy and enhanced customer value
  • Leads and advocates company direction in external facing forums, including NYISO and working with the regulatory and legal teams for interaction and dockets at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
  • Coordinates across transmission business to develop overall NY transmission asset plans, and deployment strategy, including asset plan development of new technologies
  • Moving forward NYISO tariffs that allows National Grid to move forward with those asset plans and investments, and market rules exists that allow National Grid and its customers to realize the full value of those investments (e.g., energy storage participation in NY markets)
  • Ensuring that National Grid’s engineering and operation and compliance functions understand the impact of new tariff requirements and ensuring that compliance mechanisms are in place to meet requirements.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  •  Bachelor degree in business, policy or engineering
  • 7+ years of work experience in Electric Transmission, commercial and/or project management, and alliance and stakeholder management
  • Ability to align and influence stakeholders
  • Experience working on multiple simultaneous initiatives
  • Entrepreneur mentality
