About the role

The Principal Process Development Engineer in Technology Operations supports the development and maintenance of customer centric, mission critical processes geared at improving quality, effectiveness and efficiency within the Unified Technology Operations Center (UTOC) covering all of our United States and United Kingdom locations.
They will have overall accountability for collaborating with stakeholders across National Grid to develop, implement, and manage the critical processes. Leveraging your significant experience in developing and managing teams within a Network/Technology Operations Centre


Key Accountabilities will include: 

  • Develop and optimize operational processes for current and new product support needs.
  • Be the engineering lead for specific processes and projects.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure that processes continue to support evolving capability requirements.
  • Liaise with external suppliers for improvement opportunities.
  • Responsibility to make suggestions on continuous improvement within the business.
  • Provide support for current and new technology products.
  • Develop process automation opportunities.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and standards related to technology operations.
  • Generate and maintain associated process documents to support the above.
  • Develop and drive improvements to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Support the hiring and development of UTOC team members.
  • Support in development of performance dashboards.
  • Support in Continual Service Improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver leadership updates on process performance and development.

About you

Ideally you will have/be    

  • HND or Bachelor/Master’s Degree (or significant equivalent and relevant experience) in an Engineering/Technology discipline.
  • Proven experience in process engineering and operational support.
  • Practical understanding of network connected technology.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure Technology or other network connected technologies.
  • Diagnostic and complex problem-solving capability.
  • Thorough knowledge of Service Now, Splunk, Azure, and other network support applications.
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with a bias for action and ability to deal with ambiguity and rapidly changing environments
  • Proven leadership, relationship, communication, and presentation skills
  • Conveys confidence and professionalism, positively influencing and persuading others to take a specific course of action
