Job Purpose
The energy system will continue to change rapidly on the path to net zero carbon emissions. National Grid are at the heart of these changes, which pose strategic questions for us as a business and for the energy industry. Our internal modeling teams help the wider business understand the impacts of policy and the evolution of markets and technology on the energy system.
To help our regulated businesses accelerate the energy transition we are seeking a nodal market analyst who will use electricity market modeling and problem-solving skills to support our decision making. You will become part of a high caliber, curious, motivated, inclusive team. You will get to work on exciting and challenging problems, and to analyze a range of potential growth opportunities related to electric networks, wind, solar, and energy storage.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead electricity system modeling and congestion analysis to support investment decisions, rate case development, business planning, & clean energy development opportunities;
- Continuously improve in-house nodal electricity market models, and develop frameworks for incorporating model and database updates ensuring they are fit for purpose;
- Support Clean Energy Development and Transmission Planning teams with ad hoc market analysis and assessments
- Analyze market, historical, and fundamental data to draw inferences and present results in a clear and understandable format to management and external customers
- Articulate & explain market model inputs/outputs to senior executives and other stakeholders using market analysis, modeling, & assessments of market impacts;
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (power system emphasis desired);
- Experience with electricity modeling in a consulting, RTO/ISO or corporate work environment.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience providing quantitative analysis, nodal electricity market modeling, and/or consulting;
- Advanced Excel, Python, VBA, SQL, or other programming skills; familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization / dashboard development packages a plus;
- Understanding of transmission system and power flow fundamentals, including LMP formation;
- Experience developing & employing market models, including commercial production cost modeling software, such as: ProMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, Gridview, GE MAPS, PSO/Enelytix, etc.;
- Knowledge of US power industry structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals;
- Familiarity with recent trends in conventional generation, renewables, gas, energy storage, transmission & distributed generation;
- Specific knowledge of ISONE and NYISO strongly preferred

Salary
$103,000- $121,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
