Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the plant lead man and or manager be responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform all duties related to and typically required of a journeyman mechanic

 In addition, a high level of experience and troubleshooting ability will be required in the assessment and diagnosis of all related building systems

The ability to read schematics, blue prints, shop manuals, cut sheets and electrical diagrams will be vital as the Journeyman plays a role of leadership amongst his or her junior co-workers.

Key Accountabilities

  • The job duties listed below will be precursory to all of the responsibilities listed under the job description of Journeyman
  • Will have supervisory duties to junior mechanics and or helpers.
  • Assess equipment and service needs of customer.
  • Identify revenue-generating opportunities, make recommendations to customer and close sales that can be immediately performed.
  • Install equipment as needed.
  • Service heating systems and equipment.
  • Perform efficiency tests on all combustion related installations.
  • Inspects wiring, check connections and power sources, and logs repaid needs.
  • Prepare accurate daily paperwork.
  • Basic pump repair knowledge and skills, including but not limited to circulating pumps and oil pumps.
  • General knowledge of domestic water systems including but not limited to instantaneous not water heaters, tank water heaters, booster pumps systems, and domestic mixing valves, electrical and pneumatic.
  • Communicate with dispatcher and service departments.
  • Utilize all applicable safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exhibit courteous and helpful behavior towards customer and third parties.
  • Effectively communicate orally, in writing and electronically.
  • Maintains proficiency at current level and continually updates knowledge through appropriate courses, seminars, publications and contacts in the trade.
  • Maintains a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the work place.
  • Follows established procedures for dealing with such hazards.
  • Organizes and maintains all MSDS compliance data.
  • Basic knowledge of building codes rules and regulations as well as the ability to understand corporate policy and procedure as related to the position.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.


  • NYC Low Pressure Certificate
  • NYC Air Compressor and Gases Certificate
  • EPA Universal Certification for refrigerant handling and recovery
  • Valid NYS Driver’s license is required
  • A minimum of 3 years if the promotion is in-house.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience if hired outside.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Physical demands and working conditions
  • Shift Work; Monday to Friday 7:00AM to 3:30PM
