About the Graduate Development Program

National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates are the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives and enthusiasm to our team, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to make an impact from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands. 

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position and take part ongoing development activities through your first year including monthly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. 

National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2022. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline. 

Job Purpose

To develop and support relationships with major accounts, key stakeholders, community and municipal leaders, and other major associations to enhance National Grid’s reputation within the area. As an Associate Analyst, you will support relationships within the jurisdiction in order to create third party advocates for National Grid in the regulatory, policy and political arenas. As part of the Community and Customer Management team you will interact with strategic customers, elected officials, town administrators, Chambers of Commerce, economic development agencies, community based organizations, local development councils and business associations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and support ongoing strategic relationships with key stakeholders and customers in order to gain support for favorable rate case outcomes and enhance National Grid’s image with regulators and government officials.
  • Be an advocate for the “voice of the customer” and mobilize National Grid’s functional areas.
  • Provide timely and appropriate responses to identified customer or community needs to increase business to business alignment and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and support relationships with key customer and community organizations that lead to strategic partnerships that align with corporate objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance, support and coaching to customers and communities to establish National Grid as a leader in energy technology, and to share knowledge and develop technical understanding for future utility technologies.
  • Manage relationships and representing the company to targeted community, businesses, and professional organizations.
  • Develop and foster National Grid engagement through participation in community-focused organizations.
  • Attend various community and volunteer events, monitoring, and reviewing work undertaken by project team to ensure appropriate use of resources and adherences to schedules.
  • Participate in company response to storms, outages and emergency events requiring rotational on-call coverage and as needed nights and weekends.


  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering Management, Business, Project Management, Marketing, Energy Sustainability, Construction/Facilities Management is preferred
  • Graduated between May 2021 and June 2022 

  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program May 31, 2022 or June 27, 2022 

  • Valid US driver’s license 

  • Proven leadership experience  

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
