With this paidinternship opportunity your summer will be filled with hands on projects, countless networking opportunities, field learning experiences and professional development.

Gridterns will start on either May 24th or June 7th 2021. National Grid is aiming for an in-person intern experience for Summer 2021. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.

Job Purpose

Responsibilities vary on your area of interest and department placement. We hire from a range of majors for our Gridtern program. Below are examples of majors, different department summer projects, and past departments:

Supply Chain Management ▪ Business Management ▪ Project Management

  • Tackle category management, supplier relationship management and commercial negotiations
  • Work alongside program managers to research and provide information in order to forecast cost spending

2020 Gridtern Departments included: Enterprise Change Office, Corporate Affairs, Resource Planning

Marketing ▪ Graphic Design ▪ Public Relations

  • Conduct marketing events, presentations, event planning, drafting communications, social media outreach and providing business tools support
  • Assist with customer troubleshooting, engagement and customer resolution

2020 Gridtern Departments included: Community and Customer Management, Business Services, Customer Delivery

Human Resources ▪ Labor Relations ▪ Psychology  

  • Plan employee events, spearhead meetings, coordinate volunteer events and focus on strategic workforce planning
  • Collaborate with other Human Resource Gridterns to plan and facilitate National Intern Day

2020 Gridtern Departments included: Labor Relations, Employee Engagement, Human Resource Business Partnering

Finance ▪ Accounting ▪ Data Analytics ▪ Economics

  • Tasked with allocation reviews and maintaining the selection of expense charges in order to gage business efficiency
  • Review and analyze data within the business to help look for inconsistencies in allocation entries  
  • Responsible for the internal and external financial reporting process for the FERC entities

2020 Gridtern Departments included: Finance Reporting, Plant Accounting, Center of Excellence, Data Analytics

Computer Science ▪ Information Technology ▪ Information Systems

  • Data analytics and dashboard design for a mobile deployment project
  • Conduct research in artificial intelligence and block chain

2020 Gridtern Departments included: Advanced Data and Energy Forecasting, Robotic Process Automation, Information Technology

National Grid’s Talent Acquisition Team shares qualified candidates’ applications with departments participating in the Gridtern program based on the interests you have noted in your resume and cover letter. Please note: if advanced to the next step in the selection process, you will be asked to submit your candidate profile to a specific department(s). At that time, you will receive more information on the department, role, location, and detailed responsibilities of the position(s).

  • Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Authorized to work in the United States for the entire duration of the internship
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2021 Semester
  • Some intern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in department specific Gridtern position(s) during the next step of the selection process
