National Grid Ventures is hiring a Lead Manager, External Stakeholder Management – Organized Labor. The hybrid role will be located in our Brooklyn, NY, Melville, NY or Albany, NY office.  The successful candidate will be required to travel frequently within New York State and must reside within a one-hour commute to one of the above locations.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing relationships with skilled trades and international unions and their local affiliates across New York State, in connection with setting and executing the Company’s commercial strategy on its clean energy vision, projects and priorities.  

Key Accountabilities

•    Build and maintain partnerships with organized labor leaders and labor organizations and trade councils. 
•    Lead the Company’s strategy as it relates to negotiating and implementing project labor agreements with labor unions and other external stakeholders, such as Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses.
•    Support the Company’s efforts to respond to Requests for Proposal and Requests for Information in connection with its pursuit of current and future clean energy projects and priorities.
•    Partner with the Company’s legal team in advising the Company on New York State and local labor laws, regulations, and requirements applicable to onshore and offshore wind, battery storage, solar, and similar clean energy technologies and project opportunities.
•    Work with the Company’s business units to ensure that business needs and goals are supported by and in consistent compliance with labor relations guidance and requirements.  
•    Work with business units to translate labor relations objectives into well-defined requirements with clearly defined business cases in order to support change and innovation.
•    Lead or support, as appropriate, labor contract negotiations and labor agreements in support of the Company’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications

•      Bachelor's Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations or related field of study (advanced degree/study, such as J.D., M.A. or M.B.A. with Labor Relations focus preferred).

•      5-10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years of experience working directly with one or more labor unions and/or within a heavily unionized operations, logistics and/or manufacturing working environment. (Experience in power markets, electric generation, largescale or marine construction projects and/or operations with a unionized environment preferred).

•      Experience with the following organized labor unions and labor councils strongly preferred:

•      Climate Jobs NY; the New York State Building and Construction Trades Council (and/or associated regional labor/trades councils); NYS Utility Labor Council; Utility Workers Union of America; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; Transport Workers Union of America; United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Steamfitters; Laborers International Union of North America; United Steelworkers; United Autoworkers; and/or the International Union of Operating Engineers.

•     Experience working with Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOBs).

•     Experience negotiating, interpreting and/or advising on multiple collective bargaining agreements.

•     Thorough knowledge of practices, principles and applications pertaining to the labor relations profession, including Project Labor Agreements, Prevailing Wage projects and requirements, Labor Peace Agreements, union apprentice programs or similar workforce training and development programs, and federal/state RFPs and RFIs for government sponsored and/or funded programs and projects.

•    Knowledge of current labor trends and applicable Federal and State regulations.

•    In-depth knowledge of labor law, equal employment and affirmative action programs, including the NLRA, ADA, FMLA, FSLA, and analogous state and local laws and regulations.

•   Valid driver's license with a safe driving history

•   Educated to degree level, ideally with a professional qualification or masters in a relevant subject area. This could be in communications, but would be equally beneficial in a business, humanities or engineering discipline

Salary

$123K - $174K a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
