National Grid is hiring a Lead OTS Engineer for our Electric Transmission Control Center Operations department in Liverpool, NY.

Job Purpose

This position is responsible for developing and supporting the overall operation of National Grid’s Operator Training Simulator (OTS). OTS is a replica of the Energy Management System (EMS) used for Operator training.  Demonstrated experience with any Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is preferred.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Develop, maintain, and continuously improve/update OTS on a regular basis
  2. Coordinate with the TCC Training Staff to design and develop simulator-based training scenarios for Initial and Continuing Operator training that may include:
    • Normal workflows
    • Emergency Scenarios
    • Limit (SOT/IROL) exceedances
  3. Ability to discuss and deliver training material that has been developed
  4. Evaluate and modify existing simulator training materials incorporating new systems, technologies, and procedures to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements
  5. Develop and maintain a Blackstart Restoration Simulation scenario that allows Operators to simulate a system restoration from a complete blackout with realistic system feedback
  6. Actively troubleshoot any issues relating to OTS, including coordination with the SCADA Vendor


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or other related fields from an accredited school OR minimum 5 years of experience working in the utility industry
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems support preferred
  • Advanced education in Engineering, Education, or a related field are considered a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting

  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
