National Grid is hiring a Supervisor for Welding in Upstate, New York

The role is responsible for the safety and security of the gas distribution system through the daily supervision and organization of 10+ welding personnel. Responsible to manage welding personnel to accomplish job tasks effectively, efficiently, and safely in line with departmental, National Grid, and regulatory requirements and standards
Ability to supervise a culturally diverse workforce through coaching and counseling and team building to ensure tasks are carried out in an efficient manner. Monitor performance of diverse staff Including issues relating to sickness, discipline, and poor standards of work to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and effectively. Contribute to the protection and safety of the public and organizational personnel by ensuring that employee personnel protective equipment, tools and equipment, and materials, meet National Grid safety policies and standards. Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and local rules and regulations. Complete all mandated work within regulatory guidelines and address related union issues. Oversee training: Welding Qualifications Operator Qualifications Annual Expert Training, Virtual Training, etc. Identify needs for additional training Safety Audits Oversight of Policy updates to the team Verifying job briefs, approval of time sheets, payroll, vacation, monitoring of sick time Oversight and accountability of welding budget Meet Regulatory Requirements NYS spot checks Welder Requalification’s Requalification paperwork Coordinate X-Ray crews Maintenance of welding equipment Field Audits Procedure checks (example: usage of welding rods is appropriate and as per procedure, required number of passes for fillet weld are followed, etc.) In-house QA (for example, a random 10% audit of work and x-ray)
Must have Welding experience, company knowledge, and previous experience supervising others.
Experience working in a union environment.
Technically proficient within subject matter or demonstrated ability to learn the business is preferred.
Ability to obtain welding certifications.
A good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated areas or demonstrated ability to be able to become proficient in tools and systems is preferred.
Possesses knowledge an understanding of National Grid's policies and processes and how to apply them effectively.
Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history.
$89,000 - $109,000 a year

Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
