Job Purpose

The Supervisor role is to provide front line leadership for field operations. Working as one team, one National Grid, the role has an array of responsibilities that include assuring a safe work culture, driving performance, coaching, mentoring, and overall development of the field workforce. This leadership role understands the work execution process including synchronized scheduling, and work coordination for a multi skilled workforce for construction, operation, and maintenance of Substations.

Ensures the safety of personnel by Promoting National Grid's Safety vision, leading a safe work culture, and ensuring compliance with OSHA Standards and National Grid Safety Rules.

Ensures work is completed in accordance with appropriate company policies, and standards are met through monitoring of work. Provides employee feedback and seeks to understand and resolve quality issues.

Encourages an environment of teamwork, resourcefulness, and problem solving to get the job done. Shares information and encourages participation in the decision-making process. Removes obstacles through communication and collaboration with others.

Collaborates with the Coordinator - Substations in developing a schedule and assigning crews in order to ensure efficient productivity.

Understands and enforces the collective bargaining agreement.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Experience with overseeing the completion of challenging electrical construction projects.
  • Display well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface and communicate with people at all levels across organizational boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with three years of experience in electric utility operations and substations, or similar technical field, servicing customers and supervising employees or Associate's Degree with five years of experience in Substations, or similar technical field, servicing customers, and supervising employees or minimum of seven years electric operations experience, or similar technical field. Knowledge of: collective bargaining agreements, construction standards, work methods, safety regulations, and environmental procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and civil drawings; and schematics, one-line diagrams and circuit maps.
  • Possesses working knowledge of electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, metering equipment, voltage regulation and power quality; OSHA standards, National Grid safety rules, Electric Operating Procedures, and best practice work methods.
  • Qualify for Authorized Persons List to coordinate and initiate switching applications.
  • Exhibit knowledge of Substations vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills involving utility applications, Microsoft office, and field use of laptop computers.
  • Display well-developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interface and communicate with people at all levels across organizational boundaries.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work off-hours and on call rotations, travel outside the Division for emergency assignments. These assignments and situations can require working off shifts as necessary to meet business needs.
  • Must successfully complete job specific National Grid Supervisor training courses within allotted timeframe.
