Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2023:

Business Services Plant Accounting (Brooklyn, NY)

Our Business Services Plant Accounting team drives the timely and accurate accounting of Property, Plant and Equipment. We support over $30 billion of net fixed assets across all National Grid US operating companies. For the summer you will help the team to support day to day functions, including reviewing processes for opportunities of automation and targeted process improvement.

FERC Accounting and Reporting (Brooklyn, NY)

Our FERC Accounting & Reporting team oversees the monthly close process, in compliance with GAAP and FERC reporting requirements. The team works closely with Auditors to perform procedures that provide an opinion to the financial statement. For the summer you will work directly with the team to perform these monthly reporting requirements. Additional summer assignments will be shared during the interview process. 

Finance Controllership - NY FP&A (Brooklyn, NY)

Our Finance Controllership - NY FP&A team is responsible for supporting the plan to perform process, delivering annual operating budgets, and longer-term business plans and quarterly forecasts. The team provides analytics that help our business stakeholders drive results to meet financial and strategic goals and targets. For the summer you will be processing system financial reports and helping other team members to populate monthly financial results reports with budget and forecast comparisons.

New York FP&A (Brooklyn, NY)

Our New York FP&A team prepares budgets and forecasts for our New York business financial statements. The team will then compare monthly results against these budgets and forecasts to tell our company’s monthly story. For the summer you will assist the team with gathering necessary information to prepare forecasts. You will then review actuals to budget/forecast assumptions and share findings with our stakeholders.

Service Company Accounting (Brooklyn, NY)

Our Service Company Accounting team is responsible for reviewing, verifying, and reconciling accounts specific to our Service Company business as well as other various Operating Companies. The team also looks to monitor company compliance with cost allocation policies and FERC Form 60 annual reporting. For the summer you will perform analysis in relation to recurring processes and ad hoc inquiries involving use of BI reporting and SAP general ledger.

US FDRO (Brooklyn, NY)

Our U.S. FDRO team coordinates with our different internal teams to maintain standard processes and governance around data quality management and business reporting. The team develops BI dashboards and reports to educate stakeholders around finance data management. For the summer you will assist in producing and delivering standardize reports. You will also assist in tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPI) to ensure team compliance.

What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
  • Majoring in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range

$19.00 - $22.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$28.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
