Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2023:

AMI Digital Process Design (Brooklyn, NY)

Our AMI Digital Process Design (DPD) team facilitates workshops, for different company departments, to define and document the process and acceptance criteria that is used to build the functionality to successfully deploy and implement Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for our customers. For the summer you will assist the team with development and review of the workshop materials. You will also be responsible for supporting continuous improvement initiatives, identifying program risks, and the development of different stakeholder reports.

City State Construction (Brooklyn, NY or Staten Island, NY)

Our City State Construction team is responsible for the engineering and management of gas facilities impacted primarily by various state and city agencies. The team evaluates designs provided by state and city agencies to create designs that will remediate any impacts our facilities will have with proposed agency work. For the summer you will work with the team to evaluate designs received from various New York agencies. You will also assist team engineers with the design of required new gas facilities.

Gas Distribution Engineering - NYC (Greenpoint, Brooklyn NY)

Our Gas Distribution Engineering (NYC) team is responsible for the design, oversight, and closeout of the company’s gas main replacement projects within NYC. The team also oversees reinforcement and reliability work, customer connections, and meter/regulator design work. For the summer you will be overseeing a main replacement project. This would include creating the design & job package that will then be used to begin projects within our service area.

US Sustainability (Brooklyn, NY)

Our US Sustainability team provides support to the company, as we look to achieve our environmental sustainability goals. Support provided includes overseeing sustainability programs and initiatives, assembling the greenhouse gas emissions inventory, providing internal and external reporting on emissions, and creating long-term emissions reductions plans. For the summer you will be supporting different projects like collecting ESG reporting deliverables, identifying quarterly greenhouse gas emissions projections calculations, and creating sustainability related articles for employees.

What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
  • Majoring in Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range

$21.00 - $27.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$33.00 - $34.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
