Job Purpose

  The Nurse Practitioner works with both the business and external medical providers to return employees back to work promptly following an occupational illness or injury.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal stakeholders and external medical providers in order to share best practice and understand business decisions.

Key Accountabilities

Monitor and/or assess working practices by performing physical examinations, conducting respiratory fit testing (RFT) and drug and alcohol testing i.e. pre-employment and random, to ensure compliance with policy and legislation.
Collate information and perform regular analyses to ensure more senior team members have accurate and up to date information to inform external regulators as required.
Evaluate employee compliance with safety standards and regulations and ensure team comply with safety standards, policies and processes to ensure a safe working environment and minimize risk for all staff.
Perform pre-employment physical exams on all new employees and be responsible for the evaluation, treatment, and case management of occupational injuries (acute and chronic care) to ensure the on-going well-being of employees and to reduce absence frequency.
Perform specific physical examinations as required by employees under certain programs, per federal and state regulations and see patterns or trends when performing examinations, treatments and screenings.
Undertake daily case-management and consultation with external medical providers, worker’s compensation and conduct annual flu clinics, monthly health and wellness field visits and educational seminars.
Manage the on-site health office and provide walk-in treatment and care as needed to understand employee requirements and deliver appropriate treatments, in line with National Grid policies and processes.
Conduct drug & alcohol testing i.e. pre-employment, random, reasonable cause to adhere to organizational policy and to protect National Grid's brand and reputation.
Conduct monthly Health & Wellness field visits and educational seminars in order to challenge existing ways of working and educate employees on how to do improve health and lifestyle.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills required to provide care for injured and ill employees.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal stakeholders and external medical providers in order to share best practice and understand business decisions.

Qualifications
  • B.S. Nursing and a fully qualified MSN Nurse Practitioner.
  • Board Certification - American Nurse Credentialing Center 
  • Certified in Hearing Conservation CAOHC and Spirometry preferred
  • Experience in Occupational medicine, Worker's Compensation and OSHA regulations, acute medical care and evaluation and Occupational Medicine
  • Valid Driver’s License required.  Some local travel to regional health offices will be required.
