National Grid is hiring an Instrumentation & Regulation Technical Field Trainer within our I&R Department in the Syracuse, NY and Albany, NY offices.

Job Purpose

To provide high quality learning experiences that meet National Grid’s technical, regulatory, and safety learning standards through a blended learning approach using hands on field training, knowledge sharing from other regional utility operators as well as the latest industry practices.

Key Accountabilities
  • Run field operations training to ensure field employees can demonstrate job knowledge and competencies required for safe operations of systems, facilities, and assets maintained by I&R.
  • Liaison with our business, acting as a technical training advisor for various departments throughout the company to resolve any queries or issues.
  • Represent Instrumentation & Regulation as the subject matter expert for various committees to ensure that technical training is represented and understood in the business.
  • Determine training needs associated with the introduction of new equipment, procedures and technology to ensure that National Grid incorporates best practices into learning methods and programs.
  • Conduct impartial skills assessments.
  • Adaptability to changing industry practices and development of new practices for inhouse field testing.
  • A minimum of 10 years of knowledge related to working with high pressure/transmission natural gas and corresponding assets.
  • Experience coaching and/or mentoring in gas transmission, distribution supply, odorant injection and gas measurement/metering desired.
  • Supervisory experience and/or advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including active listening and presentation experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and various business-related software.
  • Understanding of training and development principles and adult learning theory.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, be able to perform in a team environment, collaborate with others, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
