£36,645 to £40,755 pa starting salary including allowance + benefits package + Company Vehicle with fuel from home to work. As a Mechanical & Electrical Fitter you’ll join our Lancashire team covering 5 substations spanning Heysham, Middleton, Hutton, Oxenholme, Penwortham and Stanah, due to the nature of our work you will be required to live within a commutable distance to these locations. We have 2 positions available.


You’ll benefit from our industry-leading training at our facilities based in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, a training programme will be provided which will require occasional travel. Mechanical and Electrical fitters take on the responsibility of a wide range of duties on Substation plant and equipment. This includes installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation & repair as well as routine condition monitoring in line with commercial targets. 


You’ll get to work on complex 400kV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers, plus all kinds of ancillary equipment, DC battery systems, air compressors, diesels generators etc. The team also carry out unlicensed work on behalf of EDF Nuclear at Heysham 1&2 Power stations. Throughout the year there are some requirements for weekend work which overtime will be paid.

What are the requirements?

A recognised apprenticeship with level 2 or 3 in electrical or mechanical engineering or an NVQ/Level 3 qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering with the relevant engineering experience is required. A Full UK Driving Licence. You can use a computer. Substation experienced – Desirable. IOSH – Desirable.


Some of the key skill areas we look for are Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Safety Procedures, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, Panel Wiring, and Fault Finding. It is not necessary that a successful candidate requires all of the above skillsets, but a wide breadth of knowledge would be beneficial. Prior knowledge/experience within the electricity supply industry would be beneficial. On job and Formal training will be available for development purposes.

Pay and Benefits

•    A starting salary from £34,940 to £39,050pa + Seasonal Working Allowance of £1,705 pa.
•    + Company commercial vehicle & fuel from home to work.
•    37 hours average Mon – Fri, the weekends are yours.
